Description

At first when I saw the purple banner on top "Spirit Day" I didn't know what this was about. When I went to find out I knew I just HAD to participate in this and try to help support the cause.

I know what bullying is, because I've been there. I was the unpopular, unwanted, disliked, shunned kid at school. I was different than others, didn't "fit in" with them, didn't want to be 'bad' like was the trend. It was hell. It really was. Of course I tried to get some help, to try to cope and fight it... but there was, at least at that time NOTHING the teachers, coaches, parents or other adults could do to stop the bullying. The bullying people didn't know just HOW bad their actions affected me, how much they really hurt, tore a person apart. Over a span of four years I had built a "wall" around my feelings so thick that it took maybe some 10 years to break it down and start to slowly trust people again.

Eventually, I made my way through the hellish time. People in my direct environment were older because I was older. People grew up and became more mature. I never really got into contact with the bullies from then again. And to my surprise, people accepted me now. They had learned to UNDERSTAND that people are different, and nowadays they are even INTERESTED in the things I have to say, the hobbies I like to do, - the things I have to offer.

Life gets better! I have experienced it myself. Afterwards, I feel that through all the hardship I have become a stronger person. A person also who understand others better and feels when people are in pain. A person who wants to help and make their sorrow a little lighter.

If you are being bullied... there may be little you can really do, until your environment outgrows its immaturity. What helped for me is seeking support and understanding from people who can help - but most of it you won't be able to stop and you may have to outlive it. If that is the case, make sure you stick to your true self. Know who you are and what's special about you. Your future will be bright and there comes a time you can safely take a deep breath - and move on safely. *hugs*

Quote from dA: "Spirit Day is an international event to raise awareness of bullying and help prevent it in all forms. The day was started in 2010 as a response to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender youth who took their lives due to bullying. To get involved, paint your avatar purple, show support for your fellow deviants, spread the word, and submit your artwork to the gallery below to honor Spirit Day!"
